• Hats Off to Our Customers - 2015 SECURE STOMP raises $70K for KidSport

Thirty-degree heat, country music and bacon-wrapped corn. What better way to kick-off the Stampede season here in Calgary?

It was another successful event at the National Rooftop Patio on 8th Ave for SECURE’s annual Stampede STOMP. On Wednesday July 7th, we celebrated our customers in true SECURE fashion with an outdoor hoedown in support of KidSport Alberta. KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under.

Each year the event gives us the chance to say thanks to our customers, while giving back to our community.

“We’re very grateful to our customers for the trust they’ve placed in us as their partner, and for their help in supporting a great community organization like Kidsport,” said Rene Amirault, President & CEO at SECURE Energy Services.

At the time of the cheque presentation, we raised $40,000 in three hours. With an hour left to go, our guests pulled together, bringing our total donation, including SECURE’s match to $70,000 for KidSport Alberta.

“We’ve been proud supporters of KidSport in the communities where our employees live and work. Our values align with KidSport’s mission, and it’s great to know that they’re helping kids get in the game through sport and play. Enriching our youth is important to SECURE and we look forward to our ongoing relationship with the organization,” said Amirault.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support KidSport and to celebrate the Calgary Stampede!

  • Volunteers Welcome Spring at the 48th Annual Pathway and River Cleanup

On May 3, 2015 SECURE Energy Services employees, friends and family members joined over 2,000 other volunteers in Calgary to help clean up the city’s parks and pathways along the river.

The 48th Annual Pathway and River Cleanup is held each spring to help clean up areas around the city as we say goodbye to winter and welcome warmer days. As a company that’s so passionate about helping our customers minimize their impact on the environment, this event was a natural fit for our employees to participate in.

The team took to the pathway along the Elbow River and collected 10 large bags of garbage.

“Everyone was excited to get out and make a difference. I thought it was a great way to give back to the community while having fun with co-workers and getting to know other SECURE team members,” says Jessica Dzurman, HR advisor with SECURE Energy Services.

“It was a really nice day out to clean. It didn’t feel like work at all in the sun,” adds Kathy Telkamp, Jr. Well Operations Analyst for SECURE. “We had a really great group out that was eager to get everything off the pathways. People were rummaging through the bushes, trying to grab anything that was out place. We all felt really good about what we were able to accomplish.”

The Pathway and River Cleanup is coordinated by Parks in partnership with Waste & Recycling Services, Animal & Bylaw Services and the Calgary Fire Department. This is SECURE’s third year participating in the event.

  • Caring for Kids at Alberta Children’s Hospital

The lobby of the Alberta Children’s hospital was buzzing with activity on February 6, 2015. The area was filled with local media and volunteers glued to the phone lines. Boy, were there a lot of phones!

If you’ve never seen a radiothon in action, it’s a pretty neat experience. You are “ON” for fours hours, going through your contact list of who to call, answering the phone lines to take donations, adrenaline pumping as you try to raise as much money as you can within your designated window of time.

For the second year in a row, SECURE has sponsored the Country 105 Caring for Kids Radiothon in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation as a Power Hour Sponsor. During the four hour shift, our SECURE team of five made hundreds of calls out to colleagues and partners, encouraging them to make donations to the hospital.

We set a goal of 85 “Miracle Makers” during our “Power Hour”, and if we were able to achieve this goal, SECURE would donate $15,000. This year, our President Rene Amirault upped the anti and agreed to match any donation that the SECURE employees raised during their shift (which was a whopping $21,436!).

“We are very grateful to SECURE Energy Services and their employees for their enthusiastic and generous support,” says Saifa Koonar, President and CEO of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. “We can really feel the personal connection and commitment from our friends at SECURE. It’s clear that they’ll do whatever they can to ensure kids in our community can get the best care possible at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.”

Overall the 2015 Caring for Kids Radiothon raised $1.9 million for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.

SECURE has been supporting the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation since its inception in 2011.

That year, SECURE held its annual Ray Baker Memorial Golf Tournament in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. To date, the Tournament has raised over $95,000 for urgent needs at the hospital including state-of-the-art equipment, life-saving research and family-centered care programs.

The annual Ray Baker golf tournament is held in memory of Ray Baker, a long-time friend and colleague of many oilfield workers in the Rocky Mountain House area, who passed away on May 25, 2010.
All donations were raised for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation (ACHF) to reflect Ray’s family focus and love for his children.
