• Stampede Charity Party Raises $225,000 for KidSport Alberta

    Alberta has been hit hard over the past two years with not only jobs being cut across the oil and gas industry, but the tragic fire which hit Fort McMurray and area. We recognize that there are people and organizations in our province struggling right now. At SECURE, we’ve always had a strong commitment to helping our communities and neighbours. By hosting a Stampede Charity Party, it was our our hope to rally our friends, clients, colleagues and industry partners in order to help raise the much-needed dollars for charities in our province while taking in the spirit of the Calgary Stampede.

    On July 13, 2016, SECURE hosted its inaugural Charity Stampede Party in support of kids and sport in Fort McMurray and area. We’ve built a strong relationship with KidSport Alberta and believe in the power and influence that sport can have in shaping our youth.

    Rene Amirault, SECURE’s President and CEO, along with his wife Marguerite, generously opened their wallets to personally match every dollar raised from this event.

  • "WE ARE CALGARY" United Way Campaign Raises $147,665

    Our Calgary offices wrapped up a successful Campaign Week in support of the United Way of Calgary and Area. Employees rallied together for a week full of day of caring activities and fundraising incentives. The theme “I am Calgary | We are Calgary” could be felt throughout all of our events. From sandwich making for clients of the Calgary Drop-In Centre, Donation Sorting at the Women in Need Society, obstacle courses with educational facts on poverty in our city, and the opportunity to “Make the Month”, we came out with full hearts and empowered to help our fellow Calgarian’s in a time of great need. We are happy to announce that in one week SECURE raised $147,665.00 for United Way of Calgary and Area. Thank you to our campaign managers and speakers that came out to make our campaign a memorable one.

     

  • SECURE Amps up Volunteer Efforts for the Holidays

    With the holiday season upon us, the SECURE Elves have been busy volunteering with community groups that could use some extra help during the season. Employee participation and excitement for the events over the last few months is more than we could have imagined. In the spring, SECURE launched GenC: Generation of Caring; an employee-led campaign to encourage volunteering and helping our community together as a company. GenC hosts monthly volunteer activities that are carefully selected to fit the mission and vision of what GenC stands for. It's a way to give back to our community, and encourage team building within the organization. This December, we've had so many eager volunteers and not enough spots to fill, so we’ve taken on on a few more opportunities beyond our once per month activities as we gear up for the excitement and busyness of the holidays.   

    So, what have we been up to this season?

    Meal Service at the Calgary Drop-In Centre

    In November, members of our team set their alarm clocks extra early to arrive at the Calgary Drop-In Centre "The DI" in ensure the DI clients got a warm and filling breakfast. This has been a popular activity for our SECURE staff; so we’ve turned it into a quarterly activity. We sponsor and help the DI staff serve breakfast to those in need. It’s been a very touching experience for the employees that have had the opportunity to participate.

    Gift wrapping for the kids at Providence

    Earlier this month, we had a team head over to Providence to wrap books for the children that attend Providence for educational and therapeutic services. 

    Our team wrapped approximately 350 books in total for the 500+ children between 19 months and six years old that will receive books.

    Providence’s mission is to enhance the health and development of children and their families. Providence combines experience and expertise with caring and compassion to provide exceptional educational and therapeutic services to over 1200 children with disabilities. Providence also offers critical early assessment and treatment services to young children through partnerships with childcare facilities and independent schools. 

    The wrapping was fun and rewarding, but the icing on the cake was getting the opportunity to visit the classrooms and see the work of Providence in action. The preschool was full of colour, laughter and activity areas for the youngsters to enjoy. The team was welcomed in by a wonderful staff, and excited kids. It was an experience we hope to have again!

    Salvation Army Toy Warehouse

    The Salvation Army’s Christmas Program benefits 3,200 low-income families from Calgary and surrounding areas. Our team spent the day stocking shelves in the Toy Store; counting and sorting the toys as they arrived at the warehouse, and shopping in the Salvation Army Toy Warehouse based on the Christmas wish lists families have registered for their children ages 0-17 years. “The experience was extremely rewarding,” said Kaylee Mayerchuk, an employee of SECURE Energy Services and GenC employee volunteer.  “It really opens your eyes to how many kids and families you are helping around the holidays, and how many need the support of organizations like the Salvation Army,” she adds.

    For the three hours SECURE was there we put together 65 hampers for local families.

    Donation Sorting at WINS

    Fourteen volunteers from our Human Resources team spent an afternoon at the Women in Need Society “WINS” sorting donations at their warehouse. The idea was brought up as a team building activity; a way to give back during the holiday’s while doing something as a team.

    “After volunteering at WINS this past October, our team decided it was great to give back again especially this time of year,” said Jessica Dzurman, Human Resource Analyst and GenC committee member at SECURE. “When volunteering at WINS, you see what is required for a donation center in order to give back to those in need, and we were able to have a direct impact, which was a rewarding experience.”

    WINS benefits families and women in need, and as Dzurman adds, indirectly helped benefit her team as a whole. “Our team is able to ignite the “do gooder” spirit and seeing hands on how we are contributing to those in need as well as seeing where our donations go,” Dzurman says.

    WINS operates four thrift stores and six Family Resource Centres to help vulnerable women and their families live better lives.
